Sapiegų Park Palace Ruins

Vilnius, Vilnius1-2 hoursBest: Year-round; spring blossoms in the park

The ruins of a baroque palace and park in Vilnius's Antakalnis district, once the grandest private residence in the city — now an atmospheric ruin being slowly restored.

Sapiegų Park in Vilnius's Antakalnis district preserves the ruins of what was once the most magnificent private residence in the Lithuanian capital. Built by the powerful Sapieha family in the late 17th century, the baroque palace and its surrounding gardens once rivaled royal residences. Today, the palace stands in partial ruin, though restoration efforts are gradually reclaiming the structure. The surrounding park, however, retains its baroque layout and has matured into a beautiful green space. Old lime trees line former avenues, and the terraced gardens, though overgrown, still hint at their former grandeur. The park is a popular walking destination for Vilnius residents, who enjoy its combination of historical atmosphere and natural beauty. The nearby Church of the Lord Jesus and the Trinitarian Church of the Lord's Discovery add to the area's architectural interest.
