Kaunas Central Post Office

Kaunas, Kaunas30 minutesBest: Year-round

A magnificent Art Deco masterpiece from 1931 — one of the finest examples of interwar modernist architecture in the Baltic states, still functioning as a working post office.

The Kaunas Central Post Office, designed by architect Feliksas Vizbaras and built in 1931, is one of the finest Art Deco buildings in the Baltic states. Its bold geometric forms, elegant proportions, and carefully crafted details represent the peak of Lithuanian interwar architecture. The building's facade features characteristic Art Deco elements — stepped forms, geometric ornamentation, and a tower that serves as a landmark on Laisvės Alėja. Inside, the grand hall retains its original art deco interior, making posting a letter here a surprisingly aesthetic experience.
