Christ's Resurrection Church (Kauno Kristaus Prisikėlimo bažnyčia)

Kaunas, Kaunas1-1.5 hoursBest: Year-round; clear days for rooftop views

A monumental Art Deco church in Kaunas whose construction spans nearly a century — begun in 1934, used as a radio factory under the Soviets, and finally consecrated in 2004 with a rooftop terrace offering stunning city views.

Christ's Resurrection Church is one of the most remarkable buildings in Lithuania — both for its striking architecture and its extraordinary story. Designed in the 1930s as a symbol of Lithuanian independence, construction began in 1934 but was interrupted by Soviet occupation. The Soviets converted the unfinished church into a radio factory. After independence in 1990, the building was returned to the Church and painstakingly restored. It was finally consecrated in 2004, nearly 70 years after construction began. The massive white building dominates the Kaunas skyline, and its rooftop terrace offers one of the best panoramic views in the city.
