One of Lithuania's most pristine nature reserves protecting ancient floodplain forests along the Nemunas River — home to wolves, lynx, and some of the country's last wilderness.
Viešvilė is one of Lithuania's five strict nature reserves, protecting a remarkable landscape of ancient floodplain forests, wet meadows, and river channels along the Nemunas. The reserve is home to large predators including wolves and lynx, along with elk, beaver, and numerous bird species.
Access is restricted to protect the fragile ecosystem, but guided tours along peripheral trails are available. The reserve's forests include ancient oaks and alders that represent what much of Lithuania's river valleys once looked like.
