Abandoned Soviet Radar Station Skuodas
Skuodas, Klaipėda1-2 hoursBest: Year-round
The eerie ruins of a Soviet-era military radar installation in western Lithuania — massive concrete structures and rusted equipment slowly being reclaimed by nature.
Near the town of Skuodas in western Lithuania, the ruins of a Soviet-era military radar station stand as a monument to the Cold War. Massive concrete foundations, rusted equipment, and crumbling buildings are gradually being absorbed by the surrounding forest.
The site was part of the Soviet Union's air defense network and was abandoned after Lithuanian independence in 1990. Today, the ruins have an atmospheric quality — part industrial archaeology, part post-apocalyptic landscape.
Why Visit
An atmospheric encounter with Cold War ruins. The contrast between military engineering and encroaching nature is both eerie and fascinating.
