Sirvėta Regional Park

Ignalina, Utena1-2 daysBest: June to September; clear nights for stargazing

A pristine lake-and-forest landscape in northeastern Lithuania, known for its crystal-clear waters, abundant wildlife, and some of the darkest night skies in the country.

Sirvėta Regional Park protects one of Lithuania's most pristine and least-visited lake districts. Located in the remote northeast near the Belarusian border, the park encompasses dozens of interconnected lakes surrounded by ancient forests of pine, spruce, and birch. The lakes here are among the clearest in Lithuania, fed by underground springs and largely untouched by development. The forests are home to wolves, elk, beaver, and numerous bird species. The park's remoteness means that few tourists make it here, leaving the landscape in a state of peaceful wilderness. For stargazers, Sirvėta offers some of the darkest night skies in Lithuania, far from the light pollution of cities. On clear nights, the Milky Way arches overhead in brilliant detail, and the reflection of stars on the still lake surfaces doubles the celestial display.
