Rumšiškės Open-Air Museum
Kaišiadorys, KaunasFull dayBest: May to October
The largest open-air ethnographic museum in Europe — an entire recreated Lithuanian village landscape with over 180 authentic historic buildings from all regions.
The Lithuanian Open-Air Museum at Rumšiškės is one of the largest and most impressive ethnographic museums in Europe. Spread across 195 hectares of rolling countryside beside the Kaunas Reservoir, the museum contains over 180 authentic historic buildings — farmsteads, churches, windmills, schools, and workshops — transported from all regions of Lithuania and reassembled in their original form.
The museum is organized by ethnographic regions, allowing visitors to experience the distinct architectural traditions, crafts, and lifestyles of Aukštaitija, Žemaitija, Dzūkija, and Suvalkija. Buildings are furnished with period objects, and during festivals, costumed interpreters demonstrate traditional crafts, music, and cooking. The scale is remarkable — walking the full grounds takes an entire day.
