Lithuanian Railway Museum

The Lithuanian Railway Museum, located near Vilnius's main train station, is an open-air museum that tells the story of rail transport in Lithuania from the 19th century to the present. The collection includes vintage steam and diesel locomotives, historic passenger carriages, and various pieces of railway equipment. Visitors can climb aboard some of the locomotives and peer into the carriages that once carried passengers across the Baltic states and into the wider Soviet railway network. The museum's outdoor setting gives it a relaxed, exploration-friendly atmosphere, and children particularly enjoy scrambling over the massive engines. The museum also documents the darker side of Lithuanian railway history — the deportation trains that carried hundreds of thousands of Lithuanians to Siberian gulags during the Soviet occupation.
