Witch Hill (Raganų Kalnas)
Neringa, Klaipėda1-1.5 hoursBest: Year-round
A forested hilltop on the Curonian Spit filled with dozens of wooden sculptures depicting characters from Lithuanian folklore — witches, devils, and mythical creatures.
Raganų Kalnas (Witch Hill) in Juodkrantė on the Curonian Spit is one of Lithuania's most atmospheric outdoor sculpture parks. Set on a forested dune, the hill is populated with dozens of large wooden sculptures depicting characters from Lithuanian mythology and fairy tales — witches, devils, dragons, a giant fisherman, forest spirits, and more.
The sculptures were carved during symposiums in the 1980s by Lithuanian and Latvian folk artists, and the forest setting gives them an eerie, almost living presence. Walking the winding paths through the pine forest, encountering these carved figures around every corner, is an experience that appeals to children and adults alike. The hill offers the additional reward of views over the Curonian Lagoon.
Why Visit
Lithuanian mythology brought to life in a magical forest setting. The combination of folk art, ancient forest, and lagoon views makes Witch Hill one of the Curonian Spit's most memorable stops.
