Pūčkoriai Outcrop
Vilnius, Vilnius1-2 hoursBest: Spring (best waterfall flow); year-round
A dramatic 65-meter geological cliff face with a small waterfall in the heart of Vilnius — the city's most striking natural landmark, hidden in Pavilniai Regional Park.
The Pūčkoriai outcrop is the most dramatic geological feature within Vilnius city limits. This 65-meter-high cliff face reveals layers of geological history — sandstone, clay, and sand deposited over millions of years — and is crowned by a small but photogenic waterfall that cascades down its face.
The outcrop is the highest natural exposure in the Vilnius area and is a protected geological monument. It was formed by the erosion of the Vilnelė River, which has been cutting through these layers for thousands of years, creating a miniature canyon in the middle of the Lithuanian capital.
Reaching the outcrop requires a pleasant walk through the Pavilniai Regional Park forest. There are viewing platforms both above and below the cliff, offering different perspectives on this remarkable natural feature. The area around the base of the outcrop, where the waterfall collects in small pools, has a almost mystical quality — a hidden natural cathedral just minutes from apartment blocks.
