Panemunė Castle
Jurbarkas, Kaunas1.5-2 hoursBest: May to October
A Renaissance castle on the banks of the Nemunas River, beautifully restored and housing a museum — one of three castles forming the scenic 'Panemunė Castles Route.'
Panemunė Castle is one of Lithuania's most beautifully restored Renaissance fortifications. Perched on the banks of the Nemunas River, the castle was built by the Hungarian Eperješai family in the early 17th century and later owned by several Lithuanian noble families.
The castle has been meticulously restored and now houses exhibitions about the castle's history and the Panemunė region. Its crenellated towers, courtyard galleries, and riverside setting make it one of the most photogenic castles in Lithuania. Together with Raudonė and Birštonas, it forms the scenic 'Panemunė Castles Route' along the Nemunas.
