Olando Kepurė (Dutchman's Cap)
Kretinga, Klaipėda1-2 hoursBest: Year-round
A dramatic coastal cliff on Lithuania's Baltic shore, rising 24 meters above the sea — once even taller before erosion claimed its distinctive cap-like summit.
Olando Kepurė (Dutchman's Cap) is one of the most dramatic landforms on Lithuania's Baltic coast. This steep coastal cliff, rising about 24 meters above sea level near Karklė village, gets its name from its former resemblance to a hat. Centuries of Baltic storms and coastal erosion have gradually reduced the cliff — it was once significantly taller — and continue to reshape it today.
The clay and sand cliff face is exposed to the full force of the Baltic weather, creating a wild and atmospheric landscape. The beach below is littered with fallen trees and eroded blocks, while the cliff top offers sweeping views along the coast. It's one of the few places in Lithuania where you can experience genuinely dramatic coastal scenery.
Why Visit
Lithuania's most dramatic piece of Baltic coastline. The eroding cliff creates a wild, untamed atmosphere that contrasts with the gentle beaches elsewhere on the coast.
