Nida Artists' Colony

Nida has been an artists' colony since the late 19th century, when its extraordinary light, dramatic dunes, and fishing village charm attracted painters, writers, and intellectuals. The most famous resident was Thomas Mann, the Nobel Prize-winning author, who built a summer house here in 1930 — now a cultural center and museum.
