Nemunas Delta Spring Bird Migration

Every spring, the Nemunas Delta transforms into one of Europe's greatest wildlife spectacles. As the Nemunas River floods the vast delta meadows, creating temporary lakes and marshes, hundreds of thousands of migrating birds descend to rest and feed. Bean geese, white-fronted geese, whooper swans, and cranes gather in staggering numbers. The peak migration period in March-April sees dawn and dusk flights of thousands of birds moving between feeding and roosting areas.
