Kretinga Winter Garden
Kretinga, Klaipėda1-1.5 hoursBest: Year-round (especially winter)
A surprising tropical oasis in western Lithuania — a historic orangery and winter garden attached to the Kretinga Manor, housing exotic plants from around the world since the 19th century.
The Kretinga Winter Garden is one of the most unexpected attractions in western Lithuania. This historic greenhouse and tropical garden, attached to the Kretinga Manor estate, has been growing exotic plants since the 19th century when Baltic nobility competed to create the most impressive private botanical collections.
Today, the winter garden houses hundreds of tropical and subtropical plant species, creating a lush green oasis that's particularly welcome during Lithuania's cold winters. The collections include palms, orchids, cacti, and other exotic species that seem impossibly foreign in this northern landscape.
