Devil's Museum in Kaunas
Kaunas, Kaunas1-1.5 hoursBest: Year-round
The world's only museum dedicated entirely to depictions of the devil — with over 3,000 devil figurines, masks, and artworks from around the globe.
The Devil's Museum (Velnių Muziejus) in Kaunas is genuinely unique in the world. Founded in 1966 based on the private collection of painter Antanas Žmuidzinavičius, who spent decades collecting devil figurines, the museum now holds over 3,000 representations of the devil from around the world.
The collection ranges from terrifying to hilarious. Lithuanian folk art devils — mischievous rather than evil in local mythology — sit alongside African masks, Asian demon figures, and contemporary art pieces. A particularly famous exhibit shows Hitler and Stalin dancing over Lithuania, crafted during the Soviet era. The museum demonstrates how different cultures have imagined and represented evil, making it both entertaining and thought-provoking.
